| March 2004 |
First session of the year.
As such lots of work was needed to ready the site for the years work. Work
continued on the rafters. A portable saw mill was also hired for this weekend
to cut up some Oak purchased during the winter. |
| April 2004 (Four Working Days) |
![]() Four
days of heavy work during which the last rafters where fitted to the roof.
We held a small topping out ceremony where a wreath of Holly was put on
the top of the roof. We also started work on the palisade (really a heavy
duty Oak fence) that runs around the top of the bank that surrounds the
main part of the site. |
| July 2004 |
This weekend the group was split into two teams. One team worked on the hall, making pegs to be driven into the joints. These were cut from wood that had been seasoned in advance. The second group dealt with the ditch around the longhall. This involved taking a large delivery of shingle, and using it to fill in the ditch. |
| August 2004 (Seven Working Days) |
![]() A great deal was accomplished during the week. Posts were cut to support the porch and the main doors and all bar three of the sill beams for the walls were put in place. Sarking boards were placed onto the roof, in preparation for shingles.
Lathes were placed into four bays, and daubing began. By the end of the week the lower sections of one end wall had been daubed. Elsewhere the French drains were completed, and a bridge allowing entrance to the burh was constructed. |
